How long will I need to stay at the clinic after varicose vein surgery?

Varicose vein surgery is almost always an outpatient surgery. In most cases, patients are released to go home two to three hours after the varicose vein surgery is completed.

If you take out the veins, where would the blood flow?

Veins are the vessels that carry blood out of the legs. Obviously, when you are standing, the flow is against the gravity. Deep vein systems, which are located between the muscles, are the main veins. If they are healthy, the varicose and other superficial diseased veins can be safely removed.

How to get rid of spider viens?

There are two major methods of getting rid of spider veins. One is through laser technology and the other is sclerotherapy. Here at Houston Vein Disorder Clinic, we perform sclerotherapy treatments in Houston.

Which is best in the treatment of spider veins - laser or sclerotherapy?

Sclerotherapy, if performed by an expert, has been very effective. One injection sometimes covers a fairly large patch of veins. Despite what most people think, injections are not as painful as laser treatments.

Laser technology has been evolving for the last several years, and in my experience, the results are not as good as sclerotherapy that is performed by a trained and experienced physician. Furthermore, laser treatment is more expensive than sclerotherapy.

Are sclerotherapy treatments painful?

The injection, more or less, feels like a mosquito bite that lasts only a few seconds.

Do I need to wear stockings?

Usually, there is no need to wear stockings after the treatment of spider veins. Patients, who have large varicose veins, may need to wear compression stockings for a couple of weeks.
